A Life in Motion
Born in the Philadelphia area, I’ve made homes in New York, Boulder, Tulsa, and now Denver, though I’m rarely still for long. During my doctoral studies, I completed several road trips through all 48 contiguous U.S. states, determined to do something memorable in each one. I’ve also lived and studied in Europe and Southeast Asia, and I’m still fluent enough in French to get into (and sometimes out of) trouble: Je t’invite à parler en français si tu veux, mais je ne promets pas que mes réponses auront du sens.
Before academia took over my life, I was a nightlife performer and body artist in New York City, which is where the name Dr. Flux was born. I chose it as a reminder to never fear change, to stay in motion, and to embrace transformation as a creative and generative act.
My work as a makeup artist and body painter evolved into visual art and digital design, with collaborations ranging from Coney Island USA to Atlantic Records and Off-Broadway productions. Today, I create through digital illustration and character design, using tools like Procreate and Adobe Illustrator to explore science communication through visual storytelling.
My visual work often appears in lectures, slides, and public talks, including my ongoing involvement with the Float Conference (2018–present) and appearances at venues such as the American Museum of Natural History, the Vail Symposium, and NYU.
